Here are some important tips to help you master the slopes.

Think Nice and Easy with the New Easy Turning Short Shaped Skis

Long skis are difficult for first-timers to maneuver. That's why the new Easy Turners are being incorporated into ski instruction programs. About half the length of traditional skis, they work with conventional ski boots but are much easier to turn and stop than longer skis.

Take a Lesson; Don't Let Your Friend Teach You to Ski

You wouldn't let an amateur perform a root canal on you; why let a friend try to teach you to ski? That's what professional ski instructors are for. Think of ski classes as shortcuts to proficiency and fun.

Sign Up for a Learn-to-Ski Package; It's the Best Value

All Mountains of Distinction resorts offer a special GETSkiing package that includes lesson, rental equipment and access to novice ski lifts for the day or evening session. The package price is the best deal at the mountain for learning to ski.

Avoid Surprises - Call Ahead or Check the Web Site

It is a good idea to call the resort ahead of time, or check their web site, to ask what time lessons begin. Some classes form continuously during the day while others start at specific times. Get to the area at least one hour ahead of lesson time to allow time to be fitted for your rental gear. The busiest time in the rental shop is between 9-10 a.m. If you are spending the night and arrive the evening before your first lesson, some resorts will fit you with your rental gear that evening. The resort's web site can provide you with a lot of great information, including travel directions, places to stay, promotional deals and special events.

Children Get Their Own Special Classes and Play Time

These fine resorts offer special classes and day care programs for youngsters 12 & under, even including infants. On busy weekends or holidays, it is best to call ahead and reserve a space for your children and be sure to ask what time you should sign in.
